Give Peace a Chance to Crit!

We are looking for guilds to join together to break the false constructs of the war that has been forced upon us. We are both Alliance and Horde, as well as neither. Our allegiance is only to 3rd Faction.

Third Faction helping the helpless

Third Faction is an affiliation of avatar/entities with a collective interest in exposing binary systems in Synthetic Environments. Third Faction's focus is to develop a democratized and non-hierarchical praxis as well as governance. Current members include a global cabal of artists and performers whose work has been internationally recognized and exhibited. This open system is a participatory practice that welcomes new membership. As a member of Third Faction it is your duty to participate in cross factional missions, share the missions, subvert the dominant culture, and take part in a richer experience.

Although originating in World of Warcraft, the mission of the collaborative uses many methodologies to critically examine hegemonic narratives and attitudes that generally pervade game environments. Recruitment for new interventionists, volunteers and agents, is conducted through the use of video, print propaganda, and public appearances/installations.

New Related Work: Ars Virtua - Valley to Valley

The Third Faction’s sister collective, Ars Virtua, has embarked on an international project of epic proportions.

Valley to Valley (V2V) is a collaboration of artists, art historians, and social scientists working together to explore the similarities and differences between the two sister cities San Jose, CA and Yekaterinburg, Russia. San Jose is the self proclaimed capitol of Silicon Valley a global hub for technology while Yekaterinburg in Titanium Valley is the site where a new industrial and technological area is currently being designed and built.

The result will be two projects - one shown in each Valley. The San Jose project will be shown at the Zero1 Biennial and the Yekaterinburg piece will be shown at the International Festival of Contemporary Art then permanently installed in the lobby of the first building built in the new Titanium Valley location.

DPS at ISEA 2011 in Istanbul

Demand Player Sovereignty is participating in ISEA, The Inter-Society for the Electronic Arts. Our workshops in civil disobedience are taking place this week. The symposium is being held right now in Istanbul, Turkey.

Our workshop is a tutorial on exploring virtual spaces as a medium for political resistance and social awareness. We are hosting a current intervention into the World of Warcraft which encourages real-world social change through in-world political action, activism, and philanthropy. Participants in the session will learn about online gaming interventions, the history of significant acts/performances/projects, discuss strategies, extending virtual action into the geophysical/"real world", and practical experience about playing as an activist in MMORPG’s. Furthermore, attendees will learn about strategies for engagement from passive resistance to anarchical actions in game, positioning the player as a multi-dimensional agent of change.

Demand Player Sovereignty

make friends Our current project is the civil disobedience movement known as Demand Player Sovereignty or DPS.
